7 Tips To Fix Your Golf Slice
Do you have a slice problem when you swing? Listed below are some tips and ideas which can help you correct your slice and eliminate this issue for good.
#1. You Must Have the Proper Setup
An improper set up and address is one of the biggest reasons for a slice when you swing, and while there are many other causes as well this is the first thing you should try if you have a slice. It is important that your body is properly aligned with the target line during the ball address. If your left shoulder is not aimed exactly at the target of the ball then you will slice almost every time.
#2. Be Conscious of Your Hands
Check your grip. Before you take your swing look down at the club grip you are using. If you do not clearly see either 2 or 3 knuckles with your grip then you are not gripping the club properly. Make small adjustments to your left hand and grip, and swing after each adjustment to see if your game improves.
#3. Balance Your Grip
Another way to correct your slice is to examine your grip to make sure it includes the right amount of pressure. If your grip is tighter or looser than it should be then there is normally a problem. A tight grip will place restrictions on your release once impact is made, and a grip that is loose will make your ball fly off of the desired course.
#4. Turn Your Hips
A big cause of slicing to the right is not getting the full hip turn when you move through your swing and are in the strike zone. The club face needs to hit the ball squarely on, otherwise your ball will not fly straight and true. If your hips are not turning properly and all the way when you swing then you will end up slicing. #5. Don’t Over Swing
The speed of your swing is one area that you should concentrate on if you want to correct a slice. You may be tempted to speed your swing up some in the hope that you will hit the ball farther, but all this does is cause your hands to get ahead, and when you make impact your club face will open. Concentrate on slowing your swing down, and this will eliminate the opening of the club face and your slice both.
#6. Where is Your Head?
The position of your head is essential for a perfect swing. Your head should stay down until after your swing is complete. If you are like most golfers you are tempted to lift your head as soon as impact is made, and this can cause problems with your shots. You want to see where the ball goes, which is a natural reaction, and many golfers do not even realize that they lift their head. If your shots slice to the right this is a common cause of this problem.
#7. Watch Your Shoulder
If your right shoulder moves out of place during the impact it can cause contact with your chin, and cause you to lift your head and slice the ball. Make sure that your right shoulder stays in the proper position all the way through your swing.
